Fire at a Polystyrene Production Facility in Vysoké Mýto
Shortly before midnight on November 21, 2025, 27 fire units responded to a major fire at a polystyrene production facility in Vysoké Mýto. Due to the rapid spread of flames and the threat to neighboring industrial facilities, a third-level alarm was declared. The operation was complicated by freezing temperatures and ice formation. Despite these extreme conditions, over 200 firefighters successfully protected surrounding companies and prevented environmental damage. The Emergency Unit of the Fire Rescue Service of the Czech Republic provided heavy machinery for debris removal. No injuries were reported, and the cause remains under investigation.
Emergency First Aid Competition
In October 2025, Hradec Králové hosted the national Emergency First Aid Competition of the Fire Rescue Service of the Czech Republic. Seventeen four-member teams of professional firefighters underwent an intensive seventeen-hour marathon of simulated rescues. Scenarios, such as water rescues, industrial entrapments or incident in a prison, were based on real-life experience. The Emergency Unit of the Fire Rescue Service of the Czech Republic supported the event by providing technical facilities. The competition aimed to test professional medical skills under extreme conditions and time pressure. The Olomouc Region team emerged as the winner, followed by the Karlovy Vary and Zlín Regions.
Modern Technology in Incident Management and Communication
The Fire Rescue Service of the Czech Republic is implementing advanced data-sharing systems centered on drone services. Unmanned aerial vehicles now serve as key tools for reconnaissance and situational monitoring directly over emergency sites. Real-time drone footage is transmitted to the "Jestřáb" digital platform, providing commanders with a comprehensive overview via 3D models and thermal imaging. This approach includes a dedicated "Týl Press" unit for rapid public information. The use of drones significantly streamlines resource coordination and assists in the subsequent investigation of fire origins on-site.
European Union Civil Protection and Resilience Working Group Activities
In 2025, the Working Party of the Council of the European Union PROCIV-CER focused on implementation of the Critical Entities Resilience Directive (CER Directive). Representatives of the Fire Rescue Service of the Czech Republic actively participated in discussions regarding the EU Action Plan on Cable Security and the protection of infrastructure against hybrid threats. Key topics included risks posed by drones and the introduction of uniform security standards for strategic service operators. Discussions also aimed at reducing administrative burden of incident reporting. Collaboration will continue in 2026 under the Cypriot presidency, focusing on crisis business continuity.
