A Restaurant in a Campsite in the Česká Lípa Region Destroyed by Fire

The fire at the Bílý Kámen restaurant in a campsite near Lake Mácha was reported shortly after midnight on 16 July 2025. Due to the building’s construction, the fire spread rapidly through the roof void and affected most of the structure. Fourteen fire units from both within and outside the Liberec Region responded, and aerial firefighting equipment, a CCS Cobra cutting extinguisher systém and a drone were also deployed. During the intervention, a backdraft occurred – an explosive combustion caused by accumulated fire gases in an enclosed space – after which the roof collapsed and the intervention had to continue from the exterior. Extremely high temperatures and almost zero visibility complicated the firefighting effort. Damage is estimated at CZK 20 million; the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Integrated Rescue System in the Central Bohemian Region Trained a Response to a Mass-Casualty Highway Accident

A large-scale exercise of the Integrated Rescue System took place in the Central Bohemian Region, focusing on a response to a mass-casualty traffic accident on the D0 highway. The scenario simulated a collision involving a tanker truck and twenty passenger cars, the formation of a traffic queue and a large number of injured persons. A Prison Service transport bus with convicted inmates also became stuck in the queue and its security handled by the Police of the Czech Republic. In total, 142 members of the Integrated Rescue System services and 118 role-players took part. The exercise verified START triage, coordination of intervention sectors, work in constrained conditions and the use of drones. All persons were triaged and moved within 58 minutes. The exercise confirmed the readiness of the services for incidents of a similar scale and helped identify several shortcomings.

Wildfire Response Strategy in Greece (Part 2)

Greece has built a modern system for combating wildfires, based on extensive drone monitoring and the active deployment of units into high-risk areas when a high wildfire-danger level is declared. This approach enables very rapid reaction, especially in densely populated Attica, which is exposed to a high risk of wildfires. The Czech GFFF-V CZERT module was deployed to several large wildfires in difficult terrain and strong winds during its mission. The deployment tested the ability of Czech firefighters to work in an environment with dynamics different from Central Europe and confirmed the importance of international cooperation. The text follows up on the first part published in the November issue.

Experience from the Preparation of the Safety Town Project

A new Centre for Health and Safety – “Safety Town” – is being built in Ostrava, offering modern experience-based education for both children and adults in the area of civil protection and emergency response. The project showed how to optimally design and implement multimedia elements of the exhibitions to keep pace with rapid technological development during a long-term project. A significant step forward came with the creation of an official coordination team, and it also proved beneficial to involve all key partners from the very beginning. Thoughtful planning has proven to be the foundation of successful implementation for a project of this scale. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, followed by instructor recruitment and professional training.
