Railway accident in Pardubice
On Wednesday, June 5, 2024, a railway accident occurred in Pardubice between the international express train RegioJet RJ 1021 and a ČD Cargo freight train. The express train was carrying 380 passengers, the freight train was transporting 80 tons of calcium carbide. Several cars, including a sleeping car, derailed in the accident. Rescue services intervened from 10:53 p.m. The evacuation of passengers began soon after the accident and lasted until the morning. 26 injuries were confirmed, including 4 deaths. The entire intervention ended on June 7, 2024.

Czech Fire Rescue Service First Aid Championship
On October 18–20, 2024, the Czech Fire Rescue Service First Aid Championship was held, the aim of which was to test the skills of teams in solving model situations inspired by real emergencies. 16 teams from the regional Fire Rescue Brigades and the corporate sector competed. Each team completed 12 stations focused on various health and tactical challenges. The winner was the team from the Fire Rescue Brigade of Zlín region, followed by the Fire Rescue Brigade of Pilsen region and Fire Rescue Brigade of the Capital city of Prague. The competition also supported cooperation with training facilities and Fire College. The importance of the championship for the professional training of firefighters was also emphasized in the plans for future years.

International cooperation of the Fire Rescue Service of the Czech Republic with Georgia
The Fire Rescue Service of the Czech Republic cooperates with Georgia in the field of international development, specifically to identify risks and rescue capacities in Dusheti district. In 2023, the Fire Rescue Service of the Czech Republic deployed experts to assess the situation, where they met with local fire departments and nature conservationists. The aim was to increase the level equipment and training in the field of wildfires and first aid. The project delivered off-road vehicles, firefighting and rescue material. In September 2024, training in the field of fires in natural environments took place. The cooperation also included course focused on fires in enclosed spaces, which was led by Czech experts. The support of the Czech Embassy was the key to the success of the project.

Emergencies at the level of the European Union
In September 2024, Europe experienced devastating natural disasters caused by extreme weather and climate change. Floods hit Central and Eastern Europe, including the Czech Republic, where almost 19,000 people were evacuated due to heavy rains and flooding. At the same time, the forest fire season continued in Portugal and Greece, causing casualties and evacuations. Bosnia and Herzegovina faced floods and landslides that destroyed infrastructure and caused casualties. The European Union activated the Union Civil Protection Mechanism, which provided assistance to affected countries with rescue teams, equipment and material. This instrument has proven to be crucial for managing crises, but it needs to be further strengthened.
